New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has levelled serious allegations of rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, claiming the process undermined democratic principles. He further warned that a similar strategy may be deployed in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
In a post shared on social media platform X on Saturday, Gandhi shared a newspaper article detailing the alleged irregularities in Maharashtra. He described the reported election manipulation as a “blueprint” for future electoral rigging and compared it to “match-fixing.”
According to Gandhi, the manipulation involves a five-stage process. “It begins with interference in the Election Commission, followed by the inclusion of fake voters in the electoral rolls,” he stated. “The BJP then allegedly capitalises on these bogus votes to win elections,” he added.
Rahul’s comments have stirred fresh debate over electoral transparency in India, with opposition parties echoing concerns about institutional integrity. The Election Commission has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
