Rahul Gandhi Accuses Modi of Surrendering to Trump

Bhopal: Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday made sharp allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that he capitulated to pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump during a crucial security operation. Speaking at a party convention in Bhopal, Gandhi said that following India’s “Operation Sindoor” — launched in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack — Trump had phoned Modi, leading to an abrupt ceasefire announcement.

“After Operation Sindoor began, Trump called and asked, ‘Modiji, what are you doing?’ Modi responded with ‘surrender’ and immediately declared a ceasefire,” Rahul Gandhi alleged. “Unlike the BJP government, former Congress leaders like Indira Gandhi, Nehru, and Sardar Patel never bowed to superpowers. They stood firm and protected India’s interests.”

Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of weakening national resolve by yielding to external pressure, contrasting it with Congress-era decisions that allegedly defied even American threats.

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing India-Pakistan tensions, particularly over the suspension of water supply under the Indus Waters Treaty. India recently revoked water flow provisions to Pakistan, citing national interests. The move has drawn strong objections from Pakistan and fresh warnings from China.

Victor Zhikai Gao, Vice President of the Center for China and Globalization, criticized India’s decision, suggesting that China could retaliate by obstructing the flow of the Brahmaputra River into Indian territory. He added that China supports efforts to revive the Indus Waters Treaty to ensure continued access to water for Pakistan.

The escalating rhetoric reflects mounting geopolitical friction involving India, Pakistan, and China — with water diplomacy and regional security becoming flashpoints in the trilateral relationship.
