Vijayawada: Former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi was shifted from jail to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital on Wednesday evening following complaints of breathing difficulties. The development came after Vamsi informed the magistrate that he was facing respiratory issues in custody and experiencing nasal bone pain due to the use of an oxygen analyser.
He further reported that his pulse rate had been dropping suddenly during sleep. His legal counsel, Satyashree, also alleged in court that jail officials were administering medicines not prescribed by doctors. Responding to the concerns, the magistrate directed that Vamsi be provided treatment either at a government hospital or a recognised private facility.

Following the court’s directive, jail authorities coordinated with medical staff and facilitated his transfer to the hospital. Medical examinations, including blood tests, BP, sugar levels, ECG, and CT scan, were conducted by the attending doctors. Vamsi was also found to be suffering from a persistent cough.
The incident prompted a large gathering of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders at the hospital premises, expressing concern over his condition.
While Vamsi was recently granted bail by the ACB court in the Satya Vardhan kidnap case, he remains in judicial custody in connection with a separate case involving an attack on the Gannavaram TDP office.
