A devastating road accident in Sri Lanka has claimed the lives of at least 21 people and left over 35 others injured. The incident occurred in the early hours near Gerandiella in the Kotmale area, when a bus carrying around 70 Buddhist pilgrims plunged into a ravine.
Local reports suggest the bus was carrying 20 passengers more than its capacity. The accident is believed to have been caused by the driver losing control of the vehicle. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities say this is one of the most severe road accidents in Sri Lanka in recent months.
