A significant development has been reported in Telangana’s anti-Maoist operations, with the surrender and rehabilitation process reaching a crucial stage. On Friday, 47 Maoists surrendered en masse at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Hyderabad in the presence of Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy. Officials described the development as a major setback to the Maoist movement.

As part of the surrender process, the Maoists also handed over 34 weapons to the police, including advanced firearms such as AK-47 and SLR rifles. Police officials confirmed that a majority of those who surrendered belong to Chhattisgarh and have decided to abandon the armed struggle to join the mainstream society.

According to officials, Telangana Police have been carrying out sustained strategic operations over the past few months, which have significantly weakened Maoist networks. In December 2025, 41 Maoists surrendered, including senior leaders such as Tippiri Tirupati (Devji), Malla Raji Reddy (Sangram), Bade Chokka Rao (Damodar), and Noone Narasimha Reddy (Ganganna). Additionally, another 30 Maoists surrendered in April, indicating a continuous trend.

The developments are being linked to the impact of the Centre’s “Operation Kagar”, under which security forces have intensified anti-Maoist operations across affected regions. The Union Home Ministry has set a target to eliminate Maoist influence in the country by March 31, 2026, leading to increased combing operations in forest areas such as Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh.

Addressing the media, DGP Shivadhar Reddy stated that violence cannot achieve any objective and appealed to remaining Maoists to lay down their arms and join the mainstream. He assured full rehabilitation support from the government for surrendered cadres. Officials noted that the large-scale surrender has reduced Maoist presence in Telangana to a minimal level, marking a major success for the state’s security strategy.
