Chennai: The Tamil Nadu political scenario has entered a decisive phase after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Vijay, secured 108 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections, falling just short of the 118-seat majority required to form the government.
Following the results, a key meeting was held at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai, where the newly elected MLAs unanimously elected Vijay as the legislative party leader, formally consolidating his position as the party’s chief political decision-maker.
Despite emerging as the single largest party, TVK is currently engaged in efforts to secure support from at least 10 additional MLAs. The party is actively exploring possible alliances to cross the majority mark and stake claim to form the government in the state.
According to political developments, parties such as Congress, Left parties, and PMK are being viewed as potential supporters, although no official confirmation has been made so far. If these alignments materialise, Vijay is expected to move closer to forming the government in Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, TVK has written to the Governor stating its intention to prove majority support within two weeks and has reportedly sought an appointment for discussions regarding government formation. With negotiations ongoing, the next two weeks are seen as crucial for determining whether Vijay will take oath as Chief Minister.
