Amid a fragile ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, maritime tensions continue to escalate, raising concerns over the stability of international shipping routes. Despite diplomatic understandings on land, confrontations at sea appear to be intensifying between the two nations.
In the latest development, the U.S. military has seized a vessel named Majestic X in the Indian Ocean over allegations that it was illegally transporting Iranian oil. The U.S. Department of Defense released footage on social media platform X, showing American forces boarding the ship using helicopters and taking control of it during the operation.

The vessel was reportedly traveling between Sri Lanka and Indonesia when it was intercepted. U.S. officials stated that the action is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt networks accused of facilitating military and financial support to Iran. Washington reiterated that it will continue to block any maritime supply chains linked to such activities.
This incident follows a recent seizure of another Iran-linked commercial vessel, Touska, near the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. authorities have alleged that the ship was carrying hazardous materials suspected to be used in missile production, although detailed evidence has not yet been made public. These repeated actions have further heightened tensions in the region.
Iran has strongly condemned the seizures, calling them a violation of the ceasefire understanding and an attack on its commercial maritime interests. Tehran has demanded the immediate release of the vessels and their crew members. Meanwhile, the expanding U.S. naval presence in key sea routes has raised concerns that the ceasefire may be increasingly limited in scope, with analysts warning of potential escalation in maritime confrontations.
