At a time when tensions between the US and Iran are escalating further, Iran has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s declaration of economic war against it. Iran alleged that the US has raised these measures against it in order to divert attention from its own crises, such as massive debt and rapidly rising interest costs. Iran stated firmly that by continuing its failed policies, the US will achieve nothing going forward except defeat and the hostility of the Iranian people.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sharply criticized the “economic terrorism” being carried out by the US on the platform X, saying it would pose a threat to the global economy and to sovereignty. In this context, he referred to media reports indicating that US debt has reached $40 trillion. While President Trump has, on one hand, pledged to restore fiscal discipline, reports have revealed that many of the policies he has pursued have further increased the debt burden.
What Trump said…
In this context, the US — which has been carrying out military strikes on Iran all this while — is now preparing to strike at that country’s economy. It is looking to pursue a new strategy aimed at isolating Tehran on the world map. President Trump himself warned that countries assisting Iran would have to face severe economic consequences.
President Trump stated that he is today announcing the most severe economic action ever taken against any country, targeting Iran. Trump said that no one had ever offered Iran as great an opportunity as he did regarding a deal between the two countries. However, he alleged that they failed to strike the deal. That is why, he warned, he is declaring economic war on that country today.
Trump made it clear that their goal is to isolate Iran. He stated that Iran’s navy has already been completely destroyed, its air force has been devastated, its military factories have collapsed, and its currency value has plummeted terribly. He warned that they will now face economic troubles as well. He warned that any country that provides a lifeline to Iran through its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government agencies would have to face severe economic consequences. He issued an ultimatum stating that oil smuggling, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies must all stop immediately, adding that everyone knows who is carrying these out. Trump called on all US allies to join together to confront the Iranian threat, isolate it, and defeat it. “Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
