Tamil Nadu Politics: TVK Gets Crucial Support From Left Parties

TVK party has received a significant political boost in Tamil Nadu after securing the required majority of 118 MLAs needed to form the government. Actor-politician Vijay already had the backing of 112 MLAs, and only six additional seats were needed to reach the majority mark, creating a crucial phase in government formation talks.

In a key development, Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) extended their support to TVK. Two MLAs from CPI, two from CPM, and two MLAs from VCK joined the alliance, taking the total strength to the magic figure of 118 and strengthening Vijay’s claim to form the government.

Reports also suggest that CPI General Secretary Raja received a phone call from Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who is said to have requested support for TVK’s government formation. Similar appeals were reportedly made to the VCK leadership to extend backing to Vijay, further consolidating support for the alliance.

With Congress already extending support earlier and CPI, CPM, and VCK now joining the fold, the path for government formation appears clear. Vijay is scheduled to meet the Governor at 4:30 pm to formally stake claim to form the government, with speculation that he may take oath as Chief Minister as early as Saturday.
