In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin has made key remarks regarding the emerging government formation scenario, stating that if actor-politician Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) comes to power, the opposition would not create any hurdles for the first six months and would closely observe its functioning.
Stalin said that the DMK respects the mandate of the people and expects the new government to continue key welfare schemes implemented during his tenure. He specifically urged that initiatives such as free breakfast for school students and the ₹1,000 monthly financial assistance for women should not be discontinued under any new administration.
Referring to TVK’s election promises, Stalin noted that while Vijay had assured a ₹2,500 monthly aid for women, implementing such a large-scale financial commitment may be challenging. He suggested that at the minimum, the existing ₹1,000 assistance scheme should be continued for the benefit of women across the state.
The Chief Minister also stated that his government has fulfilled nearly 90 percent of its election promises, while acknowledging that certain commitments, including the abolition of NEET, could not be achieved as they fall under the jurisdiction of the Union government. He added that DMK has no plans to form the government again and will function as a responsible opposition.
Meanwhile, political uncertainty continues as TVK, which holds 108 seats, is actively seeking additional support after the Indian National Congress extended backing from five MLAs, taking its strength to 113. With the Governor’s deadline to prove majority approaching, TVK is reportedly in talks with CPI, CPM and VCK for further support, while the final political equation in Tamil Nadu remains unresolved.
