With the United States set to hold midterm elections in two months, a new national survey suggests Indian-American voters are poised to hand a setback to President Trump’s Republican Party at the ballot box. According to the findings, a majority of these voters intend to back the Democratic Party over the ruling Republicans in the upcoming polls scheduled for November 3, which will decide all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 Senate seats, and numerous local body positions.
The survey, conducted by the Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), found that more than 90 percent of registered Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters expressed strong interest in exercising their franchise this election cycle. Notably, the data revealed that a significant proportion of Indian-Americans specifically are leaning toward the Democratic Party, even though both major parties have yet to intensify their campaigns with two months still remaining before polling day.
Breaking down the numbers, the survey found that 66 percent of Indian-American voters have decided to vote for Democratic candidates in the midterms. In contrast, only 18 percent of Indian-Americans said they favour the Republican Party, while 22 percent expressed support for Republican Senate candidates specifically. Observers noted that as the share of Asian-origin voters in the US continues to rise, their opinions are becoming increasingly consequential in shaping electoral outcomes.
Asian-origin voters who participated in the survey identified cost of living and inflation as the factors most likely to influence their voting behaviour this election season. The survey estimated that approximately 16 million Asian-origin and Pacific Islander voters are expected to cast their ballots in this election cycle, underscoring the growing weight of this voting bloc in American politics.
AAPI Data co-founder Karthick Ramakrishnan noted that the number of Asian American voters in the US is growing at a rapid pace. The APIAVote survey polled a total of 2,066 registered voters, comprising 1,896 Asian Americans — including 242 Indian Americans and 170 Pacific Islanders. AAPI Data further confirmed that a total of 16 million Asian American and Pacific Islander voters are eligible to participate in the 2026 midterm elections.
