Kolkata: A significant administrative reshuffle has taken place in West Bengal following the change in political leadership, with the appointment of senior IAS officer Soumita Mohan as the new Secretary to Governor R.N. Ravi marking the first key bureaucratic move after the BJP came to power in the state.

Soumita Mohan, a 2002 batch IAS officer, had been serving as the Transport Department Secretary for over three years. Despite multiple administrative changes during the election period, she continued in the same position until the conclusion of the electoral process, after which she was transferred to Raj Bhavan.

According to official sources, the decision was taken immediately after the election process ended on Monday, with Mohan being appointed as Governor Secretary. The post had remained vacant for a long period, and her appointment is seen as a major administrative development within the state governance structure.

Governor R.N. Ravi had assumed office at Lok Bhavan in Kolkata on March 12 and had reportedly requested the government to appoint a secretary within a week of taking charge. However, the process was delayed due to the election schedule and related restrictions.

Meanwhile, Governor Ravi along with his wife Lakshmi Ravi visited the Kalighat Kali Temple on Tuesday and offered special prayers, stating that they prayed for the welfare and development of West Bengal, as the state continues to witness important political and administrative changes.
