The mother of a teenage girl who went viral for making inappropriate remarks about PM Modi during a protest has thanked him for forgiving her daughter. She said PM Modi had given her daughter a “new life.” She said she was folding her hands in gratitude for his choosing forgiveness over retaliation.
“Modi showed his great heart by forgiving my child, who used such disrespectful words. Today is his birthday, and on this occasion, he has given my child the great gift of a new lease on life. From today, this is like a rebirth for this girl,” she said.
A video of a girl making harsh comments about the Prime Minister went viral after it emerged from a protest held at Jantar Mantar, organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), against the NEET-UG paper leak. PM Modi responded to this on Instagram on Friday, describing those who had abused him as people who had “lost their way.” He made clear that this could not be answered with anger or revenge.
Following the PM’s response, a video of the girl apologizing also surfaced online. In it, she stated she was 15 years old and said she now understood the seriousness of her mistake. “What I did is unforgivable. I said a lot of wrong things. I’m ashamed to even look at myself,” she said remorsefully. She said she went to the protest with friends and got influenced by the people there, calling it her first and last mistake, and pleaded for the whole country to forgive her.
Based on a complaint about the incident, which occurred on July 23, Noida Police registered a Zero FIR and transferred it to Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi. The complaint stated that the girl’s remarks had damaged the dignity of the Prime Minister’s office and could disturb law and order. The girl’s mother alleged that the FIR incorrectly recorded her daughter’s age as 25 instead of 15.
On this occasion, she urged the government to ban Instagram and Facebook for children under 20 and to keep minors away from protests. Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Depke targeted PM Modi over the episode. Reacting to Modi’s Instagram video, he asked: “Will you forgive her only in a reel, or will you also withdraw the cases?”
