Two expensive London flats said to be linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei have now come up for sale. The two flats together are valued at approximately £36 million — roughly ₹460 crore in Indian currency. However, British government records show that Khamenei is not the direct owner of these flats. The records list Iranian businessman Ali Aliakbar Ansari as the owner.
It is understood that Ansari had borrowed money from private individuals to purchase these flats. After he failed to repay those loans, the lenders appointed receivers to recover their money, and it is under the receivers’ authority that the flats are now being sold. One of the properties up for sale is a massive penthouse, priced at approximately £12 million — around ₹153 crore. Located at 3A Palace Green, the penthouse has five bedrooms and a separate staff room. A large rooftop terrace offers a view of Kensington Palace.
According to records, Ansari purchased this penthouse in 2016 for approximately £19 million. He bought another flat in 2014 for £16.75 million. Both properties are located close to the official residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales. Britain and the United States have already imposed sanctions on Ansari, who faces allegations of providing financial support to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In October 2025, the British government froze his assets and imposed several sanctions on him.
Reports indicate that Ansari holds properties worth more than £140 million in London. It is understood that the proceeds from the sale of these two flats could also be frozen by the government under the sanctions. However, full details are yet to emerge on exactly what price the flats will ultimately fetch, and what action the government will take regarding the proceeds once the sale goes through.
