Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump’s stance. He sharply mocked the American president, saying his signature holds no value whatsoever. He criticized the United States for violating the recently reached temporary peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and America. Against the backdrop of Washington’s unilateral decisions and violations of the agreement, he sarcastically remarked that it has once again been proven that Trump’s signature is confined to mere paper, with no credibility behind it. Khamenei made these sensational remarks in a special message recently released addressing the people of Iran.
America Tramples the Agreement
On June 18 this year, a historic temporary peace understanding was reached between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. However, Mojtaba Khamenei leveled serious accusations that the United States has repeatedly violated this agreement. He stated that this action has once again exposed America’s true character and its treacherous nature to the world. He lashed out, saying that failing to keep its word and disregarding international agreements has become a habit for the United States. Khamenei warned that if America continues its war-mongering in this manner and tries to bring further pressure to subdue Iran, it will be taught a lesson it will never forget. He made clear that, with the support of its defense forces along with regional “resistance forces,” Iran will give America a fitting response.
Escalating Tensions, Stalled Talks
According to the temporary agreement reached between the two countries, both sides were required to hold talks on a final peace agreement and reach a decision within 60 days of the deal. However, before this deadline could expire, the situation in the Gulf region turned upside down. The American military recently launched a series of attacks on Iranian targets. In retaliation, Iranian forces also struck American military bases in the Gulf region with missiles and suicide drones. These mutual attacks have cast war clouds over West Asia.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi officially announced that, since the United States has already violated the peace terms, Iran has also completely suspended the implementation of the rules under this memorandum of understanding (MoU). In an interview given to Iranian state television, he stated firmly that national defense is their topmost priority at this time, that there is no question of holding talks with the United States, and that no negotiation process is currently underway. These developments have plunged diplomatic relations between the two countries into further crisis.
