Hyderabad MMTS Expansion: Three New Stations Planned for Better Connectivity

The South Central Railway is fast-tracking the expansion of the MMTS Hyderabad network, with plans to add three new stations in the city as part of its second-phase development. The proposed stations at Alwal (near Loyola College), Anandbagh, and Moula Ali are aimed at improving suburban connectivity, reducing road traffic congestion, and offering affordable transport options for daily commuters in Hyderabad.

The expansion comes amid increasing demand along the Ghatkesar–Sanathnagar corridor, where MMTS services are gradually being strengthened. Railway officials have already prepared and submitted a comprehensive proposal to the Railway Board, following repeated requests from local residents and field-level feasibility assessments. Authorities have also confirmed that ground inspections, including evaluations near level crossings, indicate technical feasibility for the proposed stations.

Among the proposed locations, the station near Loyola College in Alwal is expected to benefit a large number of students and residents in the surrounding areas. The project revives earlier plans that had suggested multiple stations along the route, which remained unimplemented for years. Officials now believe that improved planning and infrastructure upgrades make the execution of the new stations more viable.

In Anandbagh, the proposed station is seen as a long-pending demand of local residents. At present, there is a significant gap between Charlapalli and Neredmet, forcing commuters to travel long distances to access rail services. Once operational, the Anandbagh station is expected to improve connectivity across key routes and reduce travel time for thousands of daily passengers.

The proposed Moula Ali station, located near railway quarters, is expected to directly serve nearly 2,000 families, including railway employees and nearby residents. With Charlapalli Railway Terminal being developed as a major future hub, these new MMTS stations are likely to function as important feeder points in the suburban rail network. Officials have indicated that construction work will begin once the Railway Board grants approval and funding is released.
