A shooting incident in the United States has once again raised serious security concerns after gunfire erupted outside the San Diego Islamic Center in California. According to local reports, two unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire outside the mosque on Monday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of three people, including a security guard.
Authorities said the attackers carried out the shooting outside the Islamic center before reportedly turning the weapons on themselves. Police have not yet confirmed the identities of the suspects or whether they had any links to any extremist or organized groups. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the attack.
Among the victims was a security guard who is being hailed for his attempt to stop the attackers from entering the mosque premises. Officials said he confronted the gunmen and tried to block their entry, sacrificing his life in the process. His intervention is believed to have prevented a larger massacre inside the facility.
At the time of the incident, hundreds of children were present at the nearby Al-Rasheed school located within the mosque complex. Authorities noted that the prompt action of the security personnel likely prevented the attackers from reaching the school, where a far more severe tragedy could have occurred.
Following the incident, police swiftly arrived at the scene and evacuated all children safely from the premises. Security has been intensified in the area, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and the background of those involved.
