The issue has triggered criticism from students and parents, who allege discrepancies in the evaluation process and improper handling of answer scripts.
The controversy came to light after a student, Vedant Srivastava, received unexpectedly low marks in his Physics examination. Suspecting an error, he requested a photocopy of his evaluated answer sheet through the CBSE’s online system. Upon receiving the document, he reportedly found that the answer script did not belong to him, but to another student, indicating a major administrative lapse.

The incident quickly gained attention after the student shared his experience on social media, leading to widespread discussion and concern among the student community. The matter has also raised questions about the accuracy and reliability of CBSE’s digital answer sheet tracking and evaluation mechanism, which plays a crucial role in determining board results.
Following the backlash, CBSE officials acknowledged the error in the Physics answer sheet case and confirmed corrective action. A senior board official reportedly communicated to the student that the correct answer script had been traced and necessary updates would be made to rectify the issue. The board’s admission has intensified scrutiny over the evaluation process.
Meanwhile, similar complaints have emerged from other students regarding discrepancies in the evaluation of Chemistry papers as well. In response, CBSE has initiated an internal inquiry and announced the formation of a special committee to examine the irregularities and strengthen the evaluation system to prevent such errors in future examinations.
