Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that his administration’s measures have led to a historic decline in illegal border crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border. In a social media post, he asserted that recent deportation efforts contributed to a significant reduction in illegal migration, with only 8,326 undocumented migrants apprehended in February. He contrasted this with the 300,000 monthly illegal entries recorded during Joe Biden’s presidency, claiming that overall illegal immigration had decreased by 95% under his leadership. Trump further warned that those attempting to enter the U.S. unlawfully would face heavy fines and immediate deportation.
However, media reports have challenged these claims, citing official data that paints a different picture. According to reports, in Biden’s final week in office, approximately 20,086 illegal migrants were detected, while in Trump’s first week, 7,287 were apprehended. Analysts suggest this represents a 65% decline, contradicting Trump’s claim of a 95% reduction.
The deportation of illegal migrants has also sparked controversy, particularly concerning Indian nationals. While the Indian government endorsed Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, concerns were raised over the treatment of deportees. Following diplomatic intervention, U.S. authorities ensured that women and children were deported without shackles.
