In a tense development in the Chief Minister’s constituency, violence erupted in the Doodyal mandal of Vikarabad district. Locals threw stones at officials who had arrived to conduct a public opinion survey on the establishment of pharma companies. District Collector Prateek Jain and other officials were targeted, with angry protesters attacking them with sticks and fists. The Special Officer for the Kodangal Area Development Authority, Venkata Reddy, was also assaulted during the incident. Three vehicles belonging to the officials, including the Collector and MRO, were damaged. The mob reportedly chased and beat the officials, showing their anger against the Chief Minister’s administration.
Protesters, primarily farmers, have expressed their frustration with the state government. Local farmers have criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s administration for promoting the establishment of pharma companies in agricultural fields under the Pharma City initiative. Protestors argue that while Indira Gandhi’s slogan “Garibi Hatao” resonated with the people, Revanth Reddy’s call for “Kisan Hatao” is harming their livelihoods. They have vented their anger at the Collector and other government officials for the perceived mismanagement and failure of the government.
The controversy surrounding the Pharma City project stems from the government’s decision to use fertile agricultural land for industrial purposes. Despite receiving environmental and other necessary clearances, officials have pressed forward with plans to set up the city, resulting in backlash from local farmers in areas like Zaheerabad and Nyalkal.
Meanwhile, Senior BRS leader Harish Rao has called on Revanth Reddy to reconsider the decision and focus on governance instead of pursuing projects that harm agricultural communities. He demanded that the Pharma City initiative be halted to avoid further unrest.
