Reports suggest that the Revanth Reddy-led government is altering its approach regarding the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. The government is reportedly taking steps toward the division of GHMC. Recently, Minister Komatireddy made startling comments, stating that the GHMC elections will be held in February 2026 and announced a plan to divide Hyderabad into four corporations, implying there will be four mayors for the city.
Congress Aims for Better Outcomes
In the previous GHMC elections, the Congress party faced a significant setback, winning only 2 out of 150 seats. The party also received no seats in the Hyderabad assembly elections. The Congress high command seems to be strategizing for improved results through the proposed division of GHMC. In contrast, the BJP made a strong showing in the last GHMC elections, with the party’s leader Bandi Sanjay at the helm, successfully capturing nearly 60 seats. Meanwhile, the BRS saw a decline in the number of seats it secured.
