As Haryana gears up for the assembly elections, political dynamics are shifting rapidly with parties unveiling their candidate lists. Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has recently joined the Congress and has been nominated to contest from the Julana assembly constituency. However, the BJP is also contesting in this seat, fielding youth leader Captain Yogesh Bairagi. The upcoming contest between Vinesh Phogat and Yogesh Bairagi is generating significant interest.
The Haryana assembly elections are scheduled for September 5, with 90 constituencies at stake. The BJP has released its second list of 21 candidates, including Yogesh Bairagi, who is the state vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and co-convenor of the Haryana BJP sports cell. His Facebook bio also notes his previous role as a pilot. The BJP’s first list included 67 candidates.
Vinesh Phogat, who recently made headlines after being disqualified at the Olympics, joined Congress alongside fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia. Both were seen at the Congress headquarters in Delhi, wearing party scarves in the presence of senior leaders. Prior to joining Congress, both Vinesh and Bajrang resigned from their positions with the Indian Railways.
