Minister Nara Lokesh, overseeing the state’s education and IT departments, has taken serious action following the incident where students in Nuzvid fell ill due to contaminated food. The director of the Nuzvid Triple IT, who was found negligent in food management, has been removed from their position. Steps are being taken to restore trust among the students and their parents.
As part of the response, a three-member monitoring committee has been appointed to oversee the Nuzvid Triple IT. The committee comprises Commissioner of College Education Pola Bhaskar, Chairman of Higher Education Department In-Charge Rammohan Rao, and Collector of Eluru K. Vetri Selvi.
The monitoring committee will focus on the following areas:
1. Adhering to standard operating protocols for maintaining food quality provided to students.
2. Implementing standard operating protocols for hygiene and cleanliness in the mess.
3. Taking measures to improve sanitation and quality standards in the students’ hostels.
4. Addressing minor repairs as needed at the Nuzvid Triple IT.
5. Establishing an internal grievance committee to address complaints related to sexual harassment, ensuring prompt and thorough investigations without negligence.
6. Implementing an action plan for drug-free and tobacco-free institutions by setting up appropriate mechanisms at each department level.
7. Taking steps to reduce mental stress for each student and promoting healthy living skills. A College Wellness Team will be established for the physical and mental well-being of students, including a Student Welfare Dean (or equivalent), two senior faculty members (preferably female), student monitors from each department, and representatives from the parents’ association. The team will ensure the safety of students through supervision by chief overseers, counselors, and medical officers.
Minister Nara Lokesh has directed the monitoring committee to develop an action plan with specific timelines for the immediate resolution of issues related to food quality, minor repairs, sensitive matters, and medical supervision. He emphasized that any undesirable incidents will be promptly reported to the government for immediate action.
