Hydra is intensifying its demolition drive in the city. Bulldozers are actively demolishing structures on illegal sites, with authorities taking swift action upon receiving complaints. The response to Hydra’s actions across Telangana has been mixed. While some commend the efforts as necessary, others criticize the demolition of poor people’s homes. Both BJP and BRS leaders have cautioned the government against demolishing houses belonging to the underprivileged. Despite these concerns, the Revanth Reddy government remains focused on protecting lakes and water bodies, putting party affiliations aside.
Recently, Hydra officials demolished illegal constructions at Mylardevpally, including sheds and industries built in the Full Tank Level (FTL) of a lake. BJP corporator Tokala Srinivas Reddy expressed concern, alleging that demolitions were carried out without prior notice. He accused the Congress government of conducting these actions out of spite, leading to a tense situation in the area.
In Rangareddy district’s Gaganpahad, tensions also arose during the demolition of illegal structures. Locals protested against the Hydra officials, questioning how demolitions could occur without prior notice. They claimed that they had been living there for years and refused to accept the demolitions of their homes. As tensions escalated, several locals were taken into police custody, and the illegal constructions were eventually demolished under heavy security.
