AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has issued revised orders rescheduling the urban local body elections across the state, following directions from the Supreme Court.
Polling originally slated for October 28 has been postponed to November 1. Votes will be counted and results declared on November 3. The publication of the final list of contesting candidates has been deferred by four days and will now take place on October 25.
The revised schedule applies to 99 urban and city local bodies in the state. The polling date for Mydukur municipality has been left pending, with the SEC saying it will be fixed only after the nomination process there is completed, as required under the rules.
The postponement extends the campaign window, offering some respite to voters and party cadres alike. Falling crude oil prices are bringing relief to consumers across the country, including those operating campaign vehicles. With improving international conditions and better supply, petrol and diesel prices in India are showing clear signs of declining.
