Aden: Houthi rebels on Thursday launched a missile attack on the presidential palace in the southern Yemeni city of Aden, killing two security personnel and seriously injuring several others, in a fresh escalation of the conflict.
Five ballistic missiles were fired at the Al-Mashiq Palace, which houses the operations of Yemen’s internationally recognised government. Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said the Prime Minister and other ministers were inside the complex when the strike occurred but escaped unhurt. He confirmed that a number of people were wounded.
Houthi-aligned media outlets later claimed the group had targeted the headquarters of the Saudi Arabia-led military operations and weapons depots.
The attack comes amid continuing air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition in support of the Yemeni government. In retaliation, the Iran-backed Houthis have been launching drone and missile attacks from areas under their control on airports, oil facilities and military installations in Saudi Arabia.
In a recent missile strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, 13 people were killed. The attack is considered the deadliest on Saudi soil in the past decade.
