A Right to Information activist from Surat has demanded an investigation into the financial sources of Bhagwanrao Depke, father of Abhijeet Depke — founder of the Cockroach Janata Party. The activist has approached authorities seeking a thorough inquiry into how funds were arranged for his son’s foreign education.
Amit Tiwari has also asked the Election Commission and tax authorities to probe the ₹1 crore legal defense fund announced by senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal for CJP protesters arrested by Delhi Police.
Citing the fact that Bhagwanrao Depke is a retired government employee and that his son completed higher education overseas, Tiwari has called for scrutiny of the family’s financial situation. He has also raised doubts about whether CJP — which operates under a political party name — is even eligible to receive funds in the first place.
Although the Cockroach Janata Party is an unregistered organization, it functions like a political party. Tiwari has argued that if ₹1 crore is being allocated to it as a legal defense fund, the Election Commission must verify whether CJP is registered under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. If it isn’t registered, he says, its activities under a political-party name — and its receipt of funds or receipts — may need to be investigated.
Separately, Amit Tiwari has approached the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, asking it to examine whether GST applies to the donation for the legal defense fund proposed by Kapil Sibal. The fund itself was set up by CJP to provide legal aid to protesters arrested by Delhi Police during the NEET paper-leak controversy, and Sibal announced his ₹1 crore contribution to it on Monday.
