Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed in a militant ambush in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, officials confirmed. The attackers targeted a security convoy in the area, triggering explosions and opening heavy gunfire in a sudden strike.
Officials further revealed that several other soldiers sustained serious injuries in the attack and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the Manipur Governor expressed deep shock and strongly condemned the attack. A statement from the Governor’s office said the loss of two brave Assam Rifles soldiers in the ambush was deeply distressing, describing it as a cowardly act that has no place in society, and asserted that such violent attacks cannot weaken the collective resolve to maintain peace and security.
The Governor prayed for strength for the bereaved families during this difficult time and wished a speedy recovery for the injured soldiers. Security forces have since deployed additional troops in the region and intensified search operations to track down the militants involved.
