Fresh tensions are emerging once again between the United States and Iran even as peace negotiations continue across West Asia. In a sensational claim, Iran announced that its air defense forces had shot down an American warplane during an alleged US aerial operation over the Jam region in Bushehr province. Iranian military sources circulated statements through social media platforms, asserting that American fighter aircraft had entered the area and were subsequently targeted and destroyed by Iranian forces.
The United States Central Command, however, firmly rejected the allegations and dismissed Iran’s claims as “false propaganda.” American officials stated that no US military aircraft had been downed and accused Tehran of deliberately spreading misinformation to escalate tensions in the region. US authorities further claimed that any images or evidence presented by Iran could either be outdated photographs or fabricated material designed to support a false narrative.
Amid the renewed war rhetoric, diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran appear to be continuing behind the scenes. According to reports, representatives from both countries have reached a preliminary understanding to extend the existing ceasefire arrangement by an additional 60 days. Sources indicate that the proposed extension would not only maintain the ceasefire but also pave the way for fresh negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, which remains one of the most sensitive issues between the two nations.
The upcoming talks are expected to take place in the backdrop of recent military confrontations and growing instability across West Asia. However, the proposed agreement is yet to become official, as it requires the approval and signature of US President Donald Trump. Once cleared by the White House, the extended ceasefire and the next phase of diplomatic discussions between the United States and Iran are expected to formally commence.
