Political uncertainty continues in Tamil Nadu over the formation of the next government, even as reports suggest that Governor R. V. Arlekar may have given a green signal to Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The development comes at a crucial time when the state is witnessing intense political activity following a fractured mandate in the Assembly elections.
In a parallel development, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), has sought an urgent appointment with the Governor. Notably, this move comes even as Vijay was present at Raj Bhavan, and Palaniswami is expected to meet the Governor soon after, triggering speculation over his next political move.
AIADMK has officially maintained that it will not support TVK in forming the government. However, internal differences appear to be surfacing within the party, with reports indicating that a section of leaders is mounting pressure on Palaniswami to reconsider the stand and explore support for TVK, even suggesting a break from ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The situation within AIADMK has further intensified with indications of a possible rebellion led by senior leader C. V. Shanmugam. Sources suggest that around 15 to 25 MLAs from his camp are in favour of extending support to TVK. Despite Palaniswami’s attempts to bring them in line, the group reportedly moved to a resort in Puducherry, fuelling speculation of a potential split in the party.
With multiple political developments unfolding simultaneously, Palaniswami’s meeting with the Governor is being closely watched. Political observers believe it could signal a strategic shift, but it remains unclear whether AIADMK will back Vijay or pursue an alternative path, keeping the state’s political scenario fluid and uncertain.
