Amid an ongoing ceasefire arrangement between the United States and Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a major directive regarding maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that the U.S. Navy has been ordered to take action against any small vessels allegedly involved in placing mines in the strategically vital waterway.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said naval forces have been instructed to “fire upon and destroy” any boats engaged in such activities, stressing that there should be “no hesitation” in carrying out the orders. He also claimed that U.S. minesweeping operations are currently underway in the region and directed that the clearance efforts be accelerated at a significantly higher pace.
Trump further asserted that the United States now maintains effective control over the Strait of Hormuz, adding that no vessel would be permitted to enter or exit the passage without authorization from the U.S. Navy. He also remarked on Iran’s internal situation, claiming the country is facing leadership uncertainty, and said restrictions would remain in place until Tehran reaches an agreement with Washington.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the U.S. military has seized an Iranian-linked vessel named Majestic X in the Indian Ocean on allegations of illegal oil transportation. The ship, which was reportedly travelling between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, was intercepted during a naval operation. The U.S. Department of Defense released footage of the seizure on social media platform X, which has since drawn widespread attention.
