Confusion continues to surround the US–Iran peace negotiations after Iran reportedly refused to participate in the second round of talks, resulting in a diplomatic deadlock. The development has slowed ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
According to international media reports, US President Donald Trump has now stepped into the process, with indications that he may attend the second round of discussions scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan. He is also reportedly considering virtual participation as diplomatic channels are being actively explored to bring Iran back to the negotiating table.
The first round of talks between the two countries was held in Islamabad on April 10 but concluded without any agreement. Following the unsuccessful outcome, the United States initiated preparations for a second round. However, Iran initially rejected participation, stating that it would not accept US conditions, though recent reports suggest a more flexible stance from Tehran.
Key differences remain unresolved, with the US insisting that Iran halt its nuclear weapons program and ease restrictions around the Strait of Hormuz.
