Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has reportedly received a major setback ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, as discrepancies have been identified in the affidavits submitted with his nominations. The development has triggered widespread discussion, with the possibility of one of his nominations being rejected.

According to reports, Vijay filed his nomination from the Perambur constituency on March 30, stating in his affidavit that there were no pending cases against him. This declaration initially appeared straightforward and in compliance with election norms.

However, in a subsequent nomination filed from Tiruchi East on April 2, Vijay disclosed that two FIRs had been registered against him. This contradiction between the two affidavits has raised concerns among election authorities regarding the accuracy of the information provided.

Officials have pointed out that furnishing inconsistent or incorrect details in election affidavits is treated as a serious violation under electoral rules. Such discrepancies can potentially lead to the rejection of a nomination, with reports indicating that Vijay’s Perambur nomination could be at risk.

The matter now awaits a final decision from the Election Commission. With the last date for filing nominations set for April 6 and scrutiny scheduled for April 7, Vijay still has a window to submit revised affidavits. If corrections are made within the deadline, he may remain in the fray from both constituencies; otherwise, one of his nominations could face rejection. Polling for 234 seats will take place on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.
