U.S. President Donald Trump’s push for military action against Iran, in coordination with Israel, is primarily driven by the country’s uranium reserves. Under the pretext of curbing Iran’s nuclear program during Supreme Leader Khamenei’s rule, the U.S. reportedly developed a master plan to seize approximately 450 kilograms of highly enriched uranium. A specialized ground force has been prepared, with the main objective of preventing Iran from using the uranium for nuclear weapons development.
Despite last year’s U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, intelligence reports indicate that the uranium remains secure, stored in underground sites such as Esfahan and Fordow. The U.S. remains concerned that Iran could potentially mobilize these stockpiles to develop nuclear weapons, prompting heightened military vigilance.
The mission is complex and highly secretive. Neutralizing Iran’s air defense systems is a critical first step, and ongoing operations have given U.S. forces control over the country’s airspace. Elite commandos, including Navy SEALs and Delta Force units, are expected to be deployed via helicopters to the storage facilities. Two strategic options are under consideration: either relocating the uranium entirely from Iran or neutralizing it on-site to render it unusable for weapons.
Accessing these deeply buried stockpiles, located hundreds of feet underground within mountains, poses extreme risks. Any failure could escalate into a broader conflict. Nevertheless, the United States appears determined to take this high-stakes step to ensure that Iran can no longer pose a nuclear threat to the region or the world.
