SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced an ambitious plan to build a human city on the Moon within the next 10 years. Known for his long-term focus on Mars, Musk revealed that lunar settlements are faster and more feasible, as rockets can travel to the Moon every 10 days, compared to the 26-month wait required for Mars missions. He expressed confidence that a fully functioning lunar city could be established within a decade.
The project, named “Lunar Base Alpha,” will rely on SpaceX’s Starship rockets, which will initially serve as living quarters for astronauts. The plan includes converting lunar ice into water and fuel, as well as constructing additional buildings using Moon soil. Musk aims to establish a permanent settlement on the Moon by 2028, bringing a new era of rapid space exploration.
The U.S. government is showing increased interest in lunar missions, with NASA’s Artemis program aiming to return astronauts to the Moon by 2028, with SpaceX as the lead contractor. Despite challenges such as the lack of atmosphere and radiation exposure, Musk stressed that off-world settlements are essential for the survival of human civilization. His announcement has reignited global excitement in space exploration.
