Trump’s Russia-Ukraine Peace Plan Rejected by Both Sides

U.S. President Donald Trump, following international support for his Gaza peace plan, has now presented a 28-point proposal aimed at ending the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trump stated that both sides have one week to accept the terms, warning that failure to agree would lead to a prolonged war. His efforts come after years of unsuccessful attempts to negotiate peace between Moscow and Kyiv, with Russian President Vladimir Putin continuing to insist that the conflict will only end when Ukraine accepts Russia’s conditions.

Early responses suggest strong resistance from Ukraine. The proposal reportedly demands that Kyiv relinquish certain contested territories, limit its military strength and commit to remaining outside NATO—terms heavily aligned with Russian interests. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated the plan is unacceptable, stating Ukraine will not compromise national sovereignty. He added that the country faces a historic dilemma between preserving national pride and maintaining key international alliances and asserted that Ukraine will make decisions solely based on its own long-term interests.

However, Russia also appears unwilling to accept the proposed framework. Reports indicate Moscow objects to provisions such as shared control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, restrictions on Russian military presence in annexed regions and the requirement to forfeit access to an estimated $300 billion in frozen assets, including a $100 billion transfer to Washington. Analysts say the rejection from both Kyiv and Moscow makes it unlikely that Trump’s proposal will gain traction, despite his warning that the alternative is indefinite conflict.
