Washington: US President Donald Trump has rolled back tariffs on several food products following a surge in commodity prices that alarmed American consumers. The decision comes after widespread public concern over rising costs and follows recent Republican losses in local mayoral elections.
Trump signed an executive order removing tariffs on items including beef, bananas, oranges, coffee, and other fruit juices. Earlier, he had maintained that tariffs on countries like Brazil would not impact American consumers. However, the price of beef—largely imported from Brazil—soared after tariffs of up to 50 percent were imposed, triggering consumer unrest.
The executive order also lifts duties on other food items and fertilizers, aiming to reduce the financial burden on US households and stabilize market prices.
