New Delhi: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, currently on a visit to India, faced criticism after a press meet in Delhi on Friday excluded women journalists. The move sparked widespread backlash, with several female journalists voicing their anger on social media.
A Taliban official later clarified that the exclusion was not intentional, citing limited media passes as the reason, and emphasized that there was no discrimination against women. The Indian government also stated that it had no role in the incident.
In response to the controversy, Muttaqi invited women journalists to a media interaction held on Sunday, ensuring their participation. The incident comes amid ongoing strict restrictions on women in Afghanistan, highlighting continued international scrutiny of the Taliban’s policies.
