Uttarkashi: A cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district triggered massive flash floods, causing large-scale destruction in the Gangotri region. Dharali village was completely washed away, with an army base camp swept downstream, leaving 10 soldiers missing.
According to officials, the cloudburst occurred after the Kheer Ganga river overflowed, triggering landslides and a sudden mudslide that engulfed the village. Rescue operations by NDRF and SDRF teams are underway, with efforts focused on locating the missing soldiers and civilians.

Preliminary reports indicate at least four fatalities, while over 100 people remain missing. Multiple houses and hotels built along the hillside were flattened by the deluge. Continuous heavy rainfall in the region is hindering relief efforts, making access to the worst-hit areas difficult.
Authorities stated that cloudbursts, which bring torrential rainfall within a short span of time, are common in the hilly terrain of Uttarakhand. Persistent rains over the past several days have intensified flooding and landslide risks, worsening conditions for residents and rescue teams alike.
