Kolkata: In a sensational development in the alleged gang-rape case of a 24-year-old law student in Kolkata, the defense lawyer of the prime accused, Manojit Mishra, has claimed that the injuries found on his client’s body are not indicative of assault but are “love bites.”
Presenting his argument, the lawyer stated that Mishra had visible scratch marks and bite-like injuries, particularly on his neck, which he claimed were the result of consensual physical interaction. “When questioned about the marks, Manojit stated they were love bites,” the defense lawyer said, adding that police took him into custody shortly after.

The defense has also demanded that the victim’s mobile phone be seized and sent for forensic analysis, and that her call records be produced in court. “I believe this is not a case of rape. I will be able to clarify what actually happened on July 20,” the defense lawyer, Ganguly, told the court.
The alleged incident occurred on June 25 inside a security guard’s room on the South Calcutta Law College premises. Four individuals have been arrested so far: Manojit Mishra, fellow students Jaib Ahmad and Pramit Mukherjee, and college security guard Pinaki Bandopadhyay.
Earlier medical reports confirmed the presence of animal claw-like injuries on Manojit’s body, which are now being cited by the defense as evidence contradicting the rape allegations. The case continues to unfold with both legal and forensic aspects under intense scrutiny.
