As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, a large-scale reduction in the number of voters is expected in the city. The comprehensive survey exercise being carried out in the city is set to conclude on Monday. According to figures available as of Saturday evening, the 28 constituencies spread across the state capital’s three districts have a total of 1.14 crore voters, of which nearly 40 lakh votes are likely to be deleted. Despite Sunday and Monday being declared government holidays, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has stated that officials — from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) up to senior authorities — will remain available on duty, and has urged those who have not yet submitted their enumeration forms to do so immediately. Meanwhile, officials are preparing to release the draft voter list on the 17th.
Nearly Half the Votes at Risk in Sanathnagar
In the Sanathnagar assembly constituency, out of a total of 2,54,030 votes, as many as 1.16 lakh votes (45.68 percent) are likely to be deleted — the highest such proportion in the city. Meanwhile, when considering the Core Urban Region (CUR), the figures for voters likely to be deleted in the Chevella, Kalwakurthy, and Shadnagar constituencies need to be treated separately, as they fall outside this urban core. Among the remaining 25 constituencies, the lowest deletion rates are expected in Ibrahimpatnam at 21.43 percent and Bahadurpura at 22.38 percent. Officials believe this figure could rise or fall by around 1 percent over the next two days, but do not expect major fluctuations given that the Bonalu festival is currently underway.
District-Wise Breakdown of Expected Deletions
In Hyderabad district, the expected deletion percentages are: Musheerabad 39.77%, Malakpet 33.92%, Amberpet 36.17%, Khairatabad 36.78%, Jubilee Hills 44.21%, Sanathnagar 45.68%, Nampally 31.33%, Karwan 33.23%, Goshamahal 39.38%, Charminar 32.49%, Chandrayangutta 32.57%, Yakutpura 31.40%, Bahadurpura 22.38%, Secunderabad 38.47%, and Cantonment 35.31%.
In Ranga Reddy district, the expected figures are: Ibrahimpatnam 21.43%, LB Nagar 42.19%, Maheshwaram 40.03%, Rajendranagar 38.14%, Serilingampally 36.60%, Chevella 19.31%, Kalwakurthy 11.65%, and Shadnagar 14.56%.
In Medchal-Malkajgiri district, the expected deletion figures are: Medchal 29.30%, Malkajgiri 37.30%, Kuthbullapur 35.99%, Kukatpally 32.81%, and Uppal 40.05%.
Impact on the City
Thousands of people migrate daily to Hyderabad from across the country in search of employment, with many eventually settling down permanently in the city. In the process, many of them also obtain voter ID cards locally. However, since voter surveys are currently underway simultaneously across all states, a significant number of people holding dual voter registrations have chosen not to return the enumeration forms collected in the city, prioritizing instead the continuation of their voting rights in their native places. As a result, lakhs of forms remain unsubmitted to officials, both in the peripheral constituencies and in the core city areas. In some cases, delays have also been attributed to lapses on the part of officials themselves. Additionally, more than a lakh voters have reported that they are yet to receive their enumeration forms. Officials have advised all such voters to fill out the form online in order to secure their voting rights.
